The common data environment (CDE) is a digital platform used to collect, manage and disseminate information [e.g.] design - whether BIM model or conventional geometric CAD data, contracts, schedules, instructions, reports, etc., across the multi-disciplined project teams. Creating a single source of the environment facilitates and promotes collaborative working culture throughout the project lifecycle.

 

Establishing a CDE environment ensures ownership of information and accountability, promotes collaboration to improve effectiveness and efficiency,  enabling comprehensive information co-ordination hence information right for the first time. It helps to build a structured data set as the project progresses.
